After DISCONTINUING the regular maintenance provided by your authorized 4S shop, this is the time we need to be aware about our own car maintenance and requirements. Today, we will share with you more about the maintenance of the 100,000-kilometer "old car."
[Car owner's family car knowledge] With the introduction of the new automobile policy, many car manufacturers have increased their vehicle warranty period of about three years or 100,000 kilometers.
*** What exactly is a 4S shop? --> 4S shop is a kind of "Four in One" company, with an automotive franchise business model, including vehicle sales (Sale), parts (Sparepart), service (Service), information feedback, etc. (Survey) ... (With that I guess everyone knows who are the major 4S dealers in Singapore...)
MOVING ON...
During this period of time, most car owners will generally choose to do maintenance work in these 4S stores. However, with the increase in vehicle mileage and years, especially after the warranty period of the entire vehicle, many owners will choose to go to the repair shop with cheaper prices and eventually leave the 4S shop. After that, the original regular maintenance reminder service will naturally not be available. At this point of time, it is ESSENTIAL FOR YOU TO TAKE FULL OWNERSHIP OF YOUR VEHICLE. Today, I will share about the 100,000-kilometer "old car." --- Maintenance requirements
Which maintenance items are easily overlooked?
When it comes to maintenance, the first thing that most people think of is the regular maintenance of replacement of oil, filtration system, replacement oil and three filters (machine filter, air filter and fuel filter), which requires frequent attention.
The frequency of change for such items is relatively high and is generally not easily overlooked. Checks such as brake systems and engine belts, spark plugs, transmission oils, and chassis parts are easily overlooked by the driver due to the relatively long replacement cycle, and for 3-4 years, the number of kilometers exceeds 100,000 kilometers. In the case of these "old cars," many things may be replaced and special attention should be paid.
1) Life-critical braking system: brake pads, brake discs, brake fluid Brake pads:
These items must be checked / before the brake pads replacement cycle approximately at 30-50 kilometers or when the thickness is less than 2mm.

THE most important system within the vehicle is the braking system.
Under normal circumstances, the replacement cycle of the front brake pads of most vehicles is approximately 30,000 kilometers, and the rear brake pads are slightly longer, approximately 60,000 to 80,000 kilometers. At the 4S shop maintenance, brake pad renewal is usually mandatory due to high standard for safety which is not an issue of concern. However, during the maintenance at the repair shop, sometimes due to time constraints or other reasons, it may often be ignored by some maintenance workers.

Therefore, it is vital for you to keep track of your vehicle mileage and reminders should be MADE TO YOUR WORKSHOPS!
*HOWEVER, DUE TO CERTAIN ROAD CONDITIONS AND THE DRIVING STYLES/ BRAKING STYLES OF CAR OWNERS, THE REPAIR REQUIREMENT MAY VARY FROM TIME TO TIME. HENCE... PLEASE DO TAKE THE ABOVE ONLY AS A FORM OF REFERENCE.
FAQ: SO HOW DO WE EXACTLY FEEL OR DETECT THE NEED FOR CHANGE?
At present, there are two kinds of brakes in the market: brake with alarms and no alarms. The brakes with brake pads alarms are relatively simple. As long as you wait for the relevant alarm lights on the vehicle to light up, it is almost time to replace the brake pads. For vehicles without this function, maintenance personnel are required to visually inspect the thickness of the brake pads at each maintenance, which is generally less than about 2mm, and they must be replaced in time. In addition, if you find that you a heard metal friction when you step on the brakes or you pull the handbrake, you will feel that the brake pads are thin.
2) Brake Fluids : It is recommended to replace it in 2 years or 50,000 kilometers
Brake fluids, most car manufacturers have strict requirements on their replacement cycle, which varies about 2 years or 50,000 kilometers (different manufacturers of the number of kilometers will be different). Brake oil has water absorption characteristics. If it is not replaced for a long time, it will corrode the brake system, causing hidden trouble for driving.

At the same time, since the brake oil absorbs water, the boiling point will be reduced, which may cause the brake pressure to be insufficient and affect the braking effect. Therefore, regular replacement of brake fluid is very important. If you usually drive very little, it is recommended to replace it two years later. After all, changing brake fluids will not cost much, but safety is priceless.
3) Spark Plugs
According to different spark plugs, the replacement cycle has a large difference The spark plug is also a component with a relatively large difference in the replacement cycle, and depending on the grade of the vehicle, the gap between the spark plugs is also large. According to the difference in the material, the replacement cycle is from 20,000 to 100,000 kilometers to more than 100,000 kilometers.
